Fantasy Football Strategy: Ty Montgomery’s position eligibility –

Ty Montgomery is the most talked-about player in Fantasy football. Who could have ever seen this coming even two weeks ago? The Packers‘ running back struggles have forced them to use the wide receiver out of the backfield primarily over the last few games.

After playing just 19 offensive snaps total in the first four games as a little-used reserve receiver, Montgomery has become a key part of the Packers’ offense in the wake of Eddie Lacy‘s injury.

He has played 98 snaps over the past two weeks, 72 of them lined up in the backfield. This has created some controversy as to whether he should be classified as a wide receiver — where he is listed in the Packers offense — or as a running back — where he is clearly playing these days.

We will neither enforce nor mandate changes to Montgomery’s positional eligibility midseason, but if you are playing in a Commissioner league, you have the ability to do so if you wish. It will just require a little bit of help from the commissioner of your league.

Our Commissioner product allows commissioners to customize their leagues in a slew of ways, and one of them is giving you the ability to play any player at any position.

Simply have your league commissioner go to your team page. Click on the red “C” icon at the top of the POS column on your roster page, select Montgomery, place him in your lineup as a running back and click the blue “Set Lineup” at the top right of the page.

If your league wants to make Montgomery RB-eligible, you have the freedom to do so. Obviously, if you are a Montgomery owner, you want that, because it’s going to make him an even more valuable Fantasy option for the moment, especially in PPR leagues. With 43 Fantasy points in PPR scoring, Montgomery ranks eighth among wide receivers over the last two weeks — he would be the No. 5 RB in that same period.

This is an odd situation, one we don’t deal with often in Fantasy football. Luckily, our commissioner product gives you the flexibility to deal with it however you wish. With James Starks still a few weeks away, Don Jackson dealing with a hand injury and Knile Davis hardly worth waiting on, Montgomery could be a difference-maker in Fantasy.

With RB eligibility, he is even more attractive.
